The first corner, a very long right hander is generally regarded as one of the most complex turns on the F1 calendar, as it tightens significantly from entry to exit, doubling back on itself into turn 2. The circuit also boasts one of the longest and fastest straights on the championship in the third sector, where the cars hit stratospheric speeds before braking heavily for the hairpin that follows.

The overall shape of the layout when seen from above, takes its inspiration from the Chinese character for “shang” which means upwards or above, a detail that sums up how Chinese culture, combined with modern technology, played a part in the design of this avantgarde facility,
