The Yas Marina Circuit is built on the man-made Yas Island in Abu Dhabi that features golf courses, theme parks and top luxury hotels and this weekend it will play host to the final and decisive round of the F1 World Championship, as everyone waits until Sunday night to find out whether the 2016 drivers’ crown will go to Lewis Hamilton or to Nico Rosberg. The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is run on the Yas Marina Circuit, which borrows some characteristics of a street circuit, even though it is a permanent facility.

Features of the Abu Dhabi Circuit

5.281 kilometres in length, it now features 16 corners, as it has been shortened a bit: it used to be 5.554 kms, with 21 corners. There are a couple of long straights interrupted by chicanes and slow corners. The cars run with a lot of downforce, with an efficient aero package that means the drivers can tackle the slow corners as well as possible, while not hindering the car’s ability to hit a good top speed down the long straights. The engineers always have a busy time of it at this event, given that engines, gearboxes and brakes come under a lot of stress and overall car reliability will be vital.

The Yas Marina track surface is very smooth, providing medium levels of grip. The race starts at dusk and so the track temperature drops over the course of the race and managing the tyres in these circumstances will be of paramount importance when it comes to car performance
