The Baku City Circuit is the fastest street track on the Formula 1 calendar. The first Grand Prix here was called the European GP, but since 2017, it changed its name to the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

The Baku street circuit features a contrast between the ancient city and its famous mediaeval walls dating back to the twelfth century and the modern part, where the skyline features buildings such as the Heydar Alivey Center.  One unusual fact about this track is that it is below sea-level.

Features of the Baku F1 track

The Hermann Tilke-designed track wends its way for a good 6 kilometres and although it is a street circuit, cars can reach speeds of 349 km/h down the 2.22 kilometre long main straight. There are also slow sections around the old walls: turns, 8, 9 and 10 are not much more than 7 metres wide.

This means that car set-up involves a compromise between having good top speed and enough aero downforce to tackle the slow 90 degree turns.
