Tim Goss, who joined us in October 2024 in what is a new position for our team of Chief Technical Officer, has almost forty years of top-level Formula 1 experience under his belt. He studied Mechanical Engineering at Imperial College London, a breeding ground for so many of the sport’s engineers, before joining Cosworth in 1986, towards the tail-end of the English engine producer’s time in Formula 1.
In 1990, he moved to McLaren, at first working on engine installation design, before a stint as Performance Engineer to two-time world champion Mika Hakkinen. In total, Tim spent almost three decades with the Woking based team, filling a variety of roles from Chief Test Team Engineer, Head of Vehicle Dynamics and Chief Engineer, before being appointed Engineering Director in 2011. He was made Technical Director in 2018.
Looking for a new challenge, Tim joined the FIA in 2021 and two years later he was appointed FIA Single-Seater Technical Director. His primary responsibilities being the technical governance of F1 and the shaping the new Formula 1 technical regulations due to come into effect as from the start of the 2026 season. That experience dovetails perfectly with his position within Visa Cash App RB as Tim plays a key role in the 2026 car development and design integration. Thanks to his extensive experience and expertise in the field, Tim will primarily focus on leading the technical vision and strategy for the team, ensuring we stay at the forefront in an ever-changing technological landscape.
