This race dates back to 1967, the first of eight times it was held at Mosport Park in Toronto. There were also two Grands Prix staged at Mont Tremblant, a ski resort up country from Montreal.
Inevitably, thanks to the popularity and success of Gilles Villeneuve, the race then moved to the city itself in 1978.
01Weekend Preview
I’m excited to get back behind the wheel this week in Canada
Isack Hadjar “Barcelona was another great weekend for us and part of an amazing European triple-header. The car is working fine and I’m excited to get back behind the wheel this week in Canada. It will be my first time driving in Montréal. It’s a very unique track and it’s definitely going to be a challenge, but there’s no reason why the car wouldn’t work as it did in the past three races. As a team, we’re confident to go racing and fight for another Q3 and hopefully points.”
When I was a kid I grew up watching the Canadian GP
Liam Lawson “I’m super excited for Montréal race week. It’s a very special race and a track which has been on the Formula One calendar for a very long time. When I was a kid I grew up watching the Canadian GP, with drivers having their debut victories here. I came to Montréal as a reserve driver last year and loved the city, so I’m really looking forward to having the opportunity to race for the first time on track this weekend.“
